In one of his first acts as the new head of the Federal Communication Commission, Ajit Pai has dropped investigations into zero rating of data traffic by service providers. Citing popularity with consumers, Mr Pai has sent a clear signal that service innovation that adheres to the principles of an Open Internet will be encouraged by the regulatory body.
Cox Communications has expanded it's coverage area for usage based billing to include 5 new regions. Home Internet subscribers of any Cox plan receive a 1TB data bucket and are charged $10 for each additional bucket of 50GB. While 99 percent of subscribers are not impacted by the change, Cox is now able to better align revenue and usage costs.
